WCC to release important ‘middle skills’ report this Tuesday

Westchester Community College and the New Skills at Work-Lower Hudson Valley Stakeholder Collaborative are pleased to announce the release of CONNECTING TO PROMISING CAREERS Middle-Skill Jobs in the Lower Hudson Valley. This major report contains findings on the changing nature of the regional economy and recommendations for educators, businesses and government to support the education and training required to empower the local workforce. Jubilant Rockland Community College nursing graduates recited the Nightingale Pledge and received their pins as proud families and friends applauded their achievements at the traditional “Nurses’ Pinning Ceremony,” and reception, May 17, at RCC’s Cultural Arts Theater. Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) student Sondos Alnamos was one of the 29 graduates of Massachusetts public colleges and universities honored at the State House May 9. Governor Charlie Baker, Senate President Stan Rosenberg, Secretary of Education James Peyser and UMass President Marty Meehan attended the “29 Who Shine” ceremony.

As the temperatures begin to rise and summer vacation readily approaches, I took some time to reflect upon what has been a very interesting first year at Schenectady County Community College. Though I wouldn’t classify the past eight months of my life as the “ideal college experience,” my time thus far at community college has most definitely affected me as a person and has played a strong aspect in my future in the professional world.
